Pearl and Enamel Demi-Parure

Circa 1860

In the Etruscan revival style comprising: a pendant/brooch centring on a star motif set with pearls to a dark blue enamel surround, the reverse with a glazed locket compartment, suspending a similarly-set detachable pendant decorated with fringes; and a pair of earrings en suite, fitted case.

This demi-parure is a classic example of a jewel from the 1860s, with its original fitted case. These suites of brooch and earrings, with the brooch often also worn as a pendant, gained popularity instead of big parures. The star motif was well loved during the era frequently decorated with pearls and blue enamel. Similar examples can be found in the Nineteenth Century Jewellery book by Peter Hinks (illustrations 28 and 29b).

Please note that the pearls have not been tested for natural origin.
