Description

Property of a Lady

Diamond, Seed Pearl and Enamel Locket Pendent Necklace

Mid 19th Century

The locket pendant with guilloché on blue enamel highlighted with old-cut diamonds of floral motif, to the similarly-set chain decorated with seed pearls, necklace length approximately 30mm, with case.

Lockets were popular as sentimental jewels in the mid 19th century and were often worn with velvet ribbons or on chains. A lock of hair with inscriptions such as initials were often carried within the jewel. The flowers on this locket may be a forget-me-not, and there is a similar example from the Understanding Jewellery book by David Bennett & Daniela Mascetti (page 124).

Please note that the pearls have not been tested for natural origin.
