Hashimoto Okiie (1899-1993)
Three woodblock prints
Showa period, 20th century
Each a woodblcok print, signed Okiie Hashimoto in pencil in roman letters, sealed Hashi, and comprising:
- Sand and Garden, 1968, edition number 1/80
- Benorite (Showa Shinzan), 1962, edition number 4/60
- Mount Fuji, artist's proof
The first: 60 x 46 cm.
The second: 59 x 46.5 cm.
The third: 46.5 x 45 cm.
Having graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts as an art teacher in 1924, Okiie Hashimoto worked as a teacher until 1955, creating art in his spare time. It wasn’t until he retired from teaching that he became a full-time artist. He exhibited at the Japanese Print Association for the first time in 1937 and his reputation continued to grow over the following decades. Japanese castles, gardens and landscapes were the predominant subjects of his work, however he went on to produce figure and floral subjects later in his career.
