Spielende Kinder am Strand (Children playing on the beach)

signed MLiebermann and indistinctly inscribed (lower right)

oil on card laid down on board

24.4 by 34cm., 9⅝ by 13⅜in.

Framed: 41.5 by 51cm., 16⅜ by 20⅛in.

Painted in 1898.

Executed on card, laid down on board, which is sound. Inspection under UV light reveals a few intermittent sensitively executed small spots of retouching along the upper and right edges and a further spot towards the lower right corner. There is an artist's pinhole to the lower corners. There is a tiny loss to the standing figure to the centre left of the composition, only really visible upon close inspection. There are a few light surface scratches in places and some tiny fly spots to the composition. This work is in overall good condition.
