Montagnes, Environs de Nice

signed E. Boudin, dated indistinctly Mai 92 and inscribed Nice (lower right)

oil on canvas

40 by 55.2cm., 15 3/5 by 21¾in.

Framed: 62.4 by 77cm., 24½ by 30⅜in

Painted in May 1892.

The canvas is lined. Inspection under UV light reveals some scattered small spots and flecks of sensitively-executed retouching to the sky and a 2cm-long line of retouching to the upper right corner. There is a vertical stretcher-bar mark, only visible in a raking light. There are a couple of fly spots in places. This work is in overall good condition.
