Barque et coquillage

signed with the monogram (lower left); signed Le Corbusier and dedicated pour Urmila, Bonheur pour toute la vie! amitie 27 mai 1955 on the reverse

oil on panel, in the artist’s frame

21.3 by 17.1cm., 8⅜ by 6¾in.

Framed: 24.2 by 19.9cm., 9½ by 7⅞in.

Painted circa 1938.

The panel is stable and is enclosed within its original box frame. Inspection under UV light does not reveal any sign of retouching. There is a historic small loss to the lower left corner of the panel and a diagonal dent (approx. 2cm) to the centre of the lower edge with some associated tiny flecks of paint loss. There are some further small flecks of paint loss elsewhere, the most prominent of which is to the lower part of the red vertical element. There are a few fine lines of craquelure only visible upon very close inspection. This work is in overall good condition.
