Operaio (Worker)

signed C. Carrà, titled and dated 912 (lower right)

pencil on paper

26.1 by 21.3 cm., 10¼ by 8⅜in.

Framed: 52 by 44cm., 20½ by 17¼in.

Drawn in 1912.

The work is registered in the Archivio Carlo Carrà with the number 21/12.

Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down, and hinged to the mount in two places along the upper edge. The sheet is slightly time-stained and the left and lower edges are unevenly torn with some associated small nicks to the upper part of the left edge. There are two small repairs to the upper corners, possibly historic repaired tears, which have been supported with restorer's paper on the reverse. There is a 0.5cm long vertical tear to the left part of the extreme upper edge and a diagonal crease to the lower right corner. There are a few fly spots in places and a couple of very minor horizontal handling creases to the lower part of the left edge. This work is in overall good condition.
