Inscribed A. Rodin and with the foundry mark Alexis Rudier. Fondeur. Paris.; stamped with the raised signature A. Rodin (on the underside)

Bronze

Height (including base): 25 ⅛ in. (63.8 cm)

Conceived in 1875-77; this reduced size conceived in November 1904 and this example cast in 1917 by the Alexis Rudier Foundry, Paris.

This work will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Critique de l'oeuvre sculpté d'Auguste Rodin currently being prepared by the Comité Rodin in collaboration with Galerie Brame & Lorenceau under the direction of Jérôme Le Blay under the archive number 2021-6354B.

Please note that the present cast was executed in October-November 1917, and was likely completed during the artist’s lifetime.
