Mz 231 Miss Blanche

signed K. Schwitters. and dated 1923 (lower right) and titled (lower left)

collage on paper laid down on the artist's mount

Image size: 15.8 by 12.8cm., 6¼ by 5in.

Mount size: 31.2 by 22.1cm., 12¼ by 8¾in.

Framed: 37.2 by 31.2cm., 14⅝ by 12¼in.

Executed in 1921.

Collage on paper, laid down on the artist's mount, which is hinged to the overmount in two places along the upper edge. The work is slightly time-stained and the current overmount covers a significant part of the artist's mount. The collage elements are secure on their paper base, the only exception being a small area of tissue paper at the top part of the vertical element that overlays the 'Miss Blanche' element which has come away from the base sheet. The collage elements are lifting from the base sheet very, very slightly at parts of the extreme edges - only visible on close inspection. The collage sheet is very slightly undulating and is coming away from the artist's mount in places, most prominently at the upper right corner. There are some minor spots of foxing in places and some creasing to the lower part of the artist's mount, not visible when framed. This work is in overall very good condition.
