Landschap in Blauw (Landscape in Blue) or Verloren pracht (Lost Splendour)

signed Leo Gestel and dated 09 (lower right); signed Leo Gestel and titled on the stretcher

oil on canvas

48.8 by 72.6cm., 19⅛ by 28⅝in.

Framed: 63 by 87.5cm., 24¾ by 34½in.

Painted in 1909.

This work will be included in the archives of the forthcoming Critical Catalogue being prepared by the Comité Leo Gestel.

The canvas is not lined. UV inspection reveals a few scattered small retouchings, including ones to the right-hand tree in the foreground which relate to small repaired impacts, and one to the right part of the extreme lower edge (the largest of which is 3cm long). There is some minor frame abrasion to parts of the extreme edges and the canvas is slightly undulating in places. There are some fine lines of craquelure, slightly raised in places, and some of which relates to the upper and lower stretcher bars. There are a few scattered fly spots. This work is in overall good condition.
