Since the introduction of the original Royal Oak in 1972, Audemars Piguet embarked on a series of material and scale experimentations. Examples of these have been the bold use of Yves Klein blue and Ferrari red dial colors and the introduction of Tantalum as a constructive material in combination with stainless steel, as in the case of the present lot. Tantalum is characterized by its high resistance to corrosion and wear and is therefore difficult to machine and tool. Audemars Piguet’s decision to use this material which is exclusively found in the aeronautical and medical industries was a bold move which lends special character to the reference. The present reference 56175TT was made in a limited edition of 2'000 pieces only and is therefore a rare opportunity to acquire a special kind of Royal Oak.
