The reference 5980 was launched in 2006 in stainless steel and with blue dial, such as the present lot. Only for a short three years it was produced in this configuration, changing to a gray dial when the movements started to be stamped with the new Patek Philippe seal, which was introduced in 2009, instead of the Geneva seal visible on the present watch. The gray dial changed to a white one in 2012 before the stainless steel 5980 was discontinued in 2013. Two-tone versions as well as a full pink gold version are still part of the current collection, however, the steel ones are hard to come by and especially an early 'Geneva Seal' with blue dial is highly attractive and sought-after.

The present lot is offered as a complete set with Certificate of Origin and presentation case with outer packaging.
