The perpetual calendar is one of the central watchmaking pillars, and most maisons strive to have an in-house version in their quiver. A function that is particularly difficult to engineer into a perpetual calendar is the retrograde, which jumps a hand from one end of a sliding scale from end back to beginning. The jumping motion requires a precise amount of torque, and to build this onto an already complicated perpetual calendar module requires skill. In this Roger Dubuis wristwatch there is not one, but two retrograde hands for the day of the week and the date, a layout seldomly seen due to its complexity.
The watch is as visually interesting as the complication, with a three tone mother-of-pearl dial, each tone for a different ring of indication with the outermost ring displaying the week count in roulette style. The movement can be seen through the display back, and it is expertly finished, complete with the Geneva seal.
