F.P. Journe

Produced between the years 2011 and 2018, this rare and unusual wristwatch belonging to the Octa range is the only F.P. Journe to incorporate a true second time zone. And, in typical Journe fashion, the watch goes further and incorporates a UTC function instead of GMT. Unlike a GMT, which is a time zone and thus any watch with dual time zone indication can be a GMT, UTC is a time standard that is directly linked with the time zones of the world, thus UTC watches must visually display both the world and its time zones.

The second time zone is indicated by a third 24-hour gilt coloured hand on the dial with corresponding gilt 24-hour markers, while a rotating disc that displays global time zones can be seen at 8 o’clock, with indications for daylight savings time. This disc can be set to the home time zone of the watch together with the 24-hour hand for easy reference or set independently using the pusher at 4 o’clock.

Aside from the UTC function, the watch also contains all the features that one knows and loves from an Octa series watch such as the double digit big date, impressive 160 hour power reserve with 120 hours of chronometric ability, retrograde power reserve indicator and of course the off centered dial on the right side of the watch so that the time can be read discreetly if it is worn on the left wrist, as the entire watch does not need to be exposed to read the time.

The movement of all F.P. Journe watches is beautifully decorated, and visible through the sapphire case back is the fully pink gold affair with signature off-center rotor with guilloche, glistening black polished screw heads, perfectly beveled edges and baseplate featuring perlage. Paired with the pink gold case, the watch is truly a beauty to behold, and as is standard for all modern Journes the entire watch is made in-house. The present watch was part of the first execution of the Octa UTC, as can be told by the colour of the dial and comes equipped with an original old-style F.P. Journe strap.
