Patek Philippe celebrated the 30th anniversary of its famed Nautilus line of sports watches in 2006, and for the occasion bestowed the model with a brand-new complication. Reference 5980 was the first ever Nautilus to feature a chronograph and used Patek Philippe’s first ever in-house chronograph movement, the calibre CH 28-250. Slightly larger than the 5711 and much thicker, this reference also wore larger than its counterparts. For these reasons, the 5980 today is a reference treasured by collectors.

Combining chronograph pushers with the iconic Genta designed case would have been a challenge for the brand but ultimately, they were integrated and utilized a rounded square shape to fit the rest of the design elements. With buttery smooth operation, the quality of the movement can be felt through the pushers.

The present watch belongs to the first series of the 5980 which was discontinued in 2013. After that year, 5980 production in steel was completely stopped with the watch only produced in two tone or full rose gold. As a result, the steel with blue dial execution has become highly desirable. Furthermore, this watch comes in a factory single seal, seldom seen for a reference as early as this and makes this an even more special opportunity to own an example of this landmark
