Towards the 1970s to the 1980s, Rolex manufactured a series of Day-Dates with colourful dials also known to be the "Stella". At that time it was a bold move from Rolex to introduce these colourful variations to one of the most conservative collections. Shown in the present lot is one example forged in yellow gold, and installed with a caramel brown tobacco "Stella" dial. A distinctive feature on the present dial would be its "pie pan" shape, with a step down from the centre to the outer minute track. This would be an indication of the first batch of "Stella" dials produced, rendering the present example a rare piece of Rolex's history to be appreciated.
