The first Patek Philippe to be fitted on a rubber strap, the Aquanaut fast became a hot-selling item and helped bridge the gap between the brand’s older and younger consumer base. The watch’s booming success then saw for regular production with the release of the 5065A series.
Despite sharing several design cues with the Nautilus—namely the signature rounded octagonal bezel—many would consider the Aquanaut a unique collection in and of itself. Newer features of the Aquanaut include: an increased case diameter from 36 mm to 38 mm (thus earning its nickname ‘Jumbo’), a sapphire display case-back revealing the self-winding caliber 315 SC, a beautiful black checkerboard dial, a three-piece steel case providing up to 120m of water resistance, and a screw-down crown. Furthering the watch’s already-exclusive nature, the present example is double-sealed thus ensuring its next owner an entirely new, exciting first wear.
