In fact, the Santos is the world's first wristwatch, invented in 1904 when Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont confided in his friend, Louis Cartier. You see, flying with a pocket watch was unreliable, dangerous and impractical. Cartier responded with the first gentleman's wristwatch, and the first pilot's watch - The Cartier Santos. The popular square-form watch caught on and became a hit with consumers.
