During the 2011 Basel fair, Patek Philippe revamped its highly collectible perpetual chronograph collection by introducing the new reference 5270, replacing the 5970. The launch of this model marks a very important milestone in the history of Patek Philippe, as it is the first perpetual chronograph wristwatch to be equipped with a completely in-house designed and manufactured movement. Ergo it also marked the end of Patek Philippe using and modifying movements from third parties. In addition to this mechanical change, Patek used the reference to clean up the dial display, moving the leap year indicator from the sub dial to a more legible location, a small window between the 4 and 5 markers. In addition, the symmetrical window was introduced between the 7 and 8 hour markers to display a day/night indicator.

The current example, housed in white gold and with silvered dial is accompanied by its accessories including certificate of origin dated 2012, second solid case back, leather walled and setting pin.
