Patek Philippe's Reference 5040 was launched in 1992 as the firm's first tonneau-shaped perpetual calendar model. The 1930's inspired monobloc case was produced in all color golds, and platinum, dressed with silvered or black dials. As confirmed from the accompanying Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin the present watch was fitted with an incredibly unique salmon colored dial. Likely commissioned by an important client, this rare salmon dial is heightened by applied Breguet numerals, luminous dots and luminous losange hands.
To the best of our research, the present lot is the only Reference 5040 with this dial configuration, and the only piece featuring luminous material. It is a fine example of Patek Philippe's attention to detail and commitment to creating individually customized pieces at the request of important clients.
We are excited to present this timepiece factory single-sealed, and with its additional case back.
