Vacheron Constantin's answered the call for a commercial sports watch with the Reference 222, designed by Gerald Genta. Heavily influenced by this original sport model, Vincent Kaufmann and external watch artist Dino Modolo created the present Overseas model. In more recent years, the model has seen updates to the shape, bezel and bracelet. The present lot represents one of the original iterations of this now iconic and collectable model.

The Overseas chronograph reference 49150 displays a striking silvered dial, with the date displayed in a traditional "double guichet" (double window) fashion - a rare feature Vacheron Constantin has become known for. The present lot is also part of the first iteration of the model, popularly referred to as Phase 1. The model launched in 1996, and was updated in 2004.
