At first sight, the Lange 1815 is just a ‘simple’ Tourbillon with an elegant dial. However, this belies the additional complications A Lange and Söhne have added beneath the dial and the level of hand finishing that has gone into the movement.
The large tourbillon aperture at 6 o’clock provides ample view of the 1-minute tourbillon, with a large bridge and ornately finished components. The manual wound Caliber L102.1 is the real star here though. In addition to the tourbillon, it features both a stop-seconds mechanism and a zero-reset function. This is the first time Lange have combined these two patented mechanisms in a single watch, but this combination makes sense for the accuracy it provides for the wearer. On pulling the crown, the secondhand stops, resets and holds at zero. Once the time has been set and with the depression of the crown, the watch restarts providing for the most accurate setting of time.
