The perpetual calendar chronograph was instrumental in establishing Patek Philippe as the predominant watchmaking manufacture in Switzerland.

Reference 5020, first introduced in 1994, was produced with a case reminiscent of a 1960s television set, from which this reference gains the nickname as the Patek TV set watch.

When it was launched it was not an immediate success, hence its production run would end after only 8 years. A rather short period considering productions runs of several decades for previous Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph references such as for the 2499.

Eventually reference 5020 began to be appreciated after it ceased production in 2002 at estimated production of 200 examples in total. In retrospect, this is an iconic reference ahead of its time and a trophy for any Patek Philippe wristwatch collection.

To our best knowledge, there are a total of about 200 watches of the reference 5020 produced in yellow, rose, white gold and platinum. Scholarship recorded less than 20 pieces were cased in platinum. The present example with black dial and enhanced with diamond indexes, is fresh to the market and is 1 of the 4 examples known to date. The watch is further presented in excellent overall condition and complete with it Certificate of Origin confirming its beautiful black dial and diamond set markers.
