The reference 2555 is Patek Philippe’s first waterproof Calatrava model and was popularly nick named the ‘Aquatic Calatrava’ thanks to its waterproof screw down case back. Less than 40 are known in today’s market, the majority of which are with yellow gold cases like the present lot. Most of the dials featured baton or bullet indexes, so it is particularly interesting to note the whimsical crinkle-cut applied hour markers that dress this Stern Freres dial. To the best of our knowledge, the present lot is the only known reference 2555 with this charming dial configuration.
