Reference 2526, produced from 1953 to 1960, was the first self-winding wristwatch made by Patek Philippe. About 3000 movements were cased as reference 2526 and the vast majority were sold with enamel dials and applied gold lapidated indexes. The present watch, however, features a rare metal dial with applied diamond indexes. According to our research, it is possible that less than 70 examples of the reference 2526 wristwatches were made in platinum and only around 20 of these appear to have featured diamond numerals. As a consequence, the present wristwatch can be considered one of the rarest examples of the model.
