The Rolex 8171 alongside the reference 6062 are arguably two of Rolex’s most historical and important references. The watches feature triple calendar work and moon phases and are both powered by automatic calibres. The main difference between the two is that the 6062 features a 36 mm case with a screw down case back. While the 8171, like the present watch, is fitted with a snap on back and a 38 mm case.
Also known by collectors as the 'Padellone', the reference 8171 is a highly collectible wristwatch today. This lot is a charismatic example with an aged and tarnished dial, giving the watch a very vintage look. The case with light surface wear and minor polishing, still proudly display its original Coronet and case number to the outside of its case back.
