Overall in very good condition. This beautiful pair of red lacquered cabinets by Clément Mère are exceptional examples of the artist’s delicate and refined approach to cabinetmaking. The lacquered surfaces are in very well-preserved condition overall and present with faint surface scratches, indentations and very minimal edge abrasions and some very minor flaking to the lacquer concentrated to the top of the cabinets. The lacquer presents with evidence of scattered and isolated areas of inpainting throughout which are not visually distracting. Each cabinet is enhanced with round marble tops with superb veining and colors. The marble presents with extremely fine and stable hairlines. One cabinet with a slightly more pronounced hairline with evidence of later accompanying restoration which is not visually distracting and measures approximately 8 inches long. The ivory elements have recently been professionally replaced with ivorine by an experienced conservator, and faithfully replicate the original patterns, texture and relief decorations of the original friezes with exceptional detail. This lot is offered with two period keys in functional condition.
