Long Chair

circa 1959-1961

American black walnut, cotton webbing

26 1/4 x 67 x 35 1/2 in. (66.6 x 170.1 x 90.1 cm)

Overall in very good condition. This beautiful long chair includes a spectacular armrest with a free edge and superb burled details. The wooden surfaces appear to have been reconditioned at some point in the history of the piece to revitalize the rich original appearance of the walnut. The wooden surfaces present with isolated and very minimal scratches, scuffs and edge abrasions consistent with gentle use and not visually distracting. Select recessed areas of the armrest appear to have been sensitively filled, possibly at the time of production, which is common for such works by George Nakashima. The fabric webbing structure is stable and in excellent condition overall. The long chair is easily adjustable in two positions.
