Sotheby's would like to thank Mira Nakashima and David Long from Nakashima Woodworkers for their assistance with the cataloguing of this lot.

"The precious piece of rosewood that constitutes the top of the present table had been purchased by my father in the 1970s and was so expensive that he split it with our associates in Japan. Its design was originally created for then Governor Nelson Rockefeller’s “Japanese” home in Pocantico Hills, but the table itself was laid out and made by me after my father’s death in 1990. I do not recall whether my father had marked out butterflies on it in chalk as he sometimes did, but the final size and placement, as well as the base design were determined by me. The piece was exhibited twice in 1994, at Terri Gallery in New York and at our Minguren Museum in Pennsylvania."
