清乾隆 青花雲龍紋供盤 《大清乾隆年製》款


decorated around the sides with a band of interlocking foliate scrolls, the stem with a five-clawed dragon in pursuit of the flaming pearl above waves breaking on jagged rockwork, further rendered with a carp, the interior of the stem inscribed with a horizontal six-character seal mark

Similar examples include one illustrated in Beauty of Ceramics, vol. 3: Blue and White Porcelain, Taipei, 1993, pl. 153, and another sold in our New York rooms, 22nd March 1999, lot 395. For earlier prototypes, see a Kangxi reign-marked tazza in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, included in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ch'ing Dynasty Porcelain in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, vol. 1, 1980, pl. 15, and a Yongzheng example sold in these rooms, 16th May 1989, lot 249.

Wilhelm Montelius was the chairman of the board of the Swedish telephone company, Ericsson, from 1901. The current lot was probably procured via the company’s office in China before 1914.
