A gilt-bronze figure of Avalokiteshvara
Ming dynasty, 16th/17th century
seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base, the right hand raised holding a stem of lotus and left hand holding a cup, dressed in loose robes elaborately decorated with floral borders, wearing bejewelled necklaces around the chest, the face with a serene expression
Height 32.2 cm, 12¾ in.
The figure has light scratchers and rubbing to the gilding and would benefit from a sympathetic clean. The top section of the lotus held in the right hand is missing. The base is open.
