An extremely rare blue and sancai-glazed pottery money chest
Tang dynasty
唐 三彩加藍錢櫃
the rectangular box raised on four legs, the upper legs applied with amber-glazed bosses imitating nails and painted with blue dapples, the sides of the chest glazed amber and punctuated with blue-glazed lion-mask roundels and a loop for a lock, the top surface of the chest ornately decorated with a broad central section glazed green and with a large polychrome trefoil in reserve and a hinged amber-glazed cover opening to an inner chamber, the central section flanked on either side by a register of three carved blossoms splashed with blue, amber, and cream glazes, the edges applied with two horizontal flanges also glazed in blue and amber
