the steep rounded sides rising from a splayed foot to a slightly incurved rim, the interior with a pale blue glaze accented with vivid violet-colored splashes, the glaze thinning to a mushroom color along the rim, the exterior with a thick reddish purple glaze with occasional hints of sky blue stopping approximately two thirds down the body to reveal the dark stoneware biscuit with an inscription dated to the 1st year of Zhizheng, corresponding to 1341, and another inscription reading Tan Xiren

This bowl, with its purple-and-blue glaze combination, embodies the quintessence of Jun ware, which is admired for its robust forms and thick opaque glazes of luscious blue tones.
