A blue and white 'lotus' vase

Qing dynasty, Shunzhi period 

清順治 青花雲肩蓮紋瓶


the ovoid body rising to broad shoulders and an elongated, slightly waisted neck, the sides boldly painted with large cobalt-blue ruyi-shaped lappets each enclosing a central lotus bloom surrounded by dense leafy scrolls all in reserve, a further lotus blossom suspended in the negative space between each lappet, all above upright stylized leaves encircling the foot, the neck similarly decorated with upright leaves above a band of clouds, the base unglazed
