of slender waisted form, cast around the mid-section and splayed foot with pairs of taotie masks with raised eyes on a fine leiwen ground, centered by notched flanges and divided by a pair of bowstrings, the tall flared neck encircled at the base by a band of angular serpents all below four upright triangular blades enclosing leiwen, the reddish-brown patina with areas of malachite-green encrustation, the interior of the base cast with a four-character inscription reading Yamu Fuji

The present gu vessel is a fine example from the late Shang dynasty, heavily cast and crisply decorated in high relief with prominent taotie mask and an intricate band of stylised snakes above the central bulb. The inside wall of the foot is cast with four pictograms reading Yamu Fuji. Fuji refers to Father Ji, possibly the name of the maker's father, and Yamu is a clan emblem found during the Shang and early Western Zhou period. Another archaic bronze gu with Fuji Yamu inscription is in the Shanxi Museum, accession no. NB0760.
See also another similar bronze gu (R1046, HPKM2046:5) unearthed in the excavation of Tomb M2046 in Xibeigang, Anyang, Henan during the Republican period, illustrated in Studies of the bronze ku-beaker excavated from Hsiao Tún & Hou Chia Chuang, Taipei, 1964, pl. 32.
晚商吉金，用料厚重，器形整體修長優雅，配以扉棱，柔中見剛。腹飾獸面，雙目攝人，上飾一圈蛇紋，接蕉葉紋四片，彰顯侈口線條。通體以雷紋襯底，層次分明，展現殷商青銅巔峰之美。
圈足內壁鑄銘「亞䍩父己」，父己應乃製器者父親之名，「亞䍩」則為所屬氏族，偶見於商至西周初期製器。山西博物院藏一銘文與此相關的青銅觚，藏品編號NB0760。
參考河南安陽西北岡M2016墓出土青銅觚（R1046, HPKM2046:5），器形、飾紋均與此相類，收入《殷墟出土青銅觚形器之研究》，台北，1964年，圖版32。
