A superbly carved and exceedingly fine white jade 'lotus' fluted teapot and cover
Qing dynasty, Qianlong period
exquisitely and skilfully worked from a lustrous and even white stone, the lobed body rising from a short footring of corresponding form on the base towards the swelling shoulder, flanked by a tapering spout and a curved handle delicately rendered with a gently upturned ruyi, the inner handle further subtly portrayed with a ridge furcating into ruyi blooms encircling the handle, the well-fitted cover with corresponding lobes and surmounted with a lotus finial bordered with upright lappets
