A rare black-glazed foliate-rimmed jar

Northern Song / Jin dynasty

北宋 / 金 黑釉花口罐


finely potted with the slightly compressed globular body rising from a splayed foot to a six-lobed mouth with a furled rim, covered overall with an even lustrous black glaze falling short above the foot to reveal the buff-colored stoneware body

Black-glazed jars of this type appear to be rare, however, a closely related example of slightly larger size from the Falk Collection sold twice at Christie's New York, first on 15th October 2001, lot 77, and again on 18th March 2008, lot 528.
