Very Fine Classical Ormolu-Mounted Carved and Figured Mahogany and Ebonized Wood Marble-Top Pier Table

Attributed to Thomas Seymour (1771–1848), possibly for James Baker or Issac Vose & Son

Boston, Massachusetts

circa 1817-23

Appears to retain its original marble top. Inscribed No. 1 on underside of top.

Height 37 in. by Width 48 in. by Depth 19 1/4 in

A related French bureau with a similar toupie-shaped foot is attributed to Thomas Seymour in Robert D. Mussey Jr., and Clark Pearce, Rather Elegant Than Showy: The Classical Furniture of Isaac Vose, (Boston, MA: Massachusetts Historical Society, 2018), p. 209, fig. 222. The No. 1 on the underside of the marble top appears to be in Thomas Seymour's hand when compared to similar inscriptions on other tables.
