A similar example is illustrated in David S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, cat. no. 49, where the author suggests that this design may have been one that was available for Western merchants to order, given the small number of examples known. A pair with the same design was sold at Christie's London, June 22nd, 1981, lot 141.
