Hermès Jaune Sellier Kelly 32cm in Epsom Leather with Gold Hardware, 2000

This Hermès Kelly bag features a single rolled top handle, two horizontal interlocking straps, a turn lock closure and a signature padlock that opens with accompanying keys. The flap opens to a matching Jaune chevre lining with one Hermès engraved zipper pull and one slip pocket on the opposite side.

Created by Robert Dumas in the 1930s, who was also responsible for creating women’s bags with straps, he designed a structured bag with two triangular gussets at the side, a cutout flap, top handle, and 2 side straps. It only became referred to, and renamed the Kelly in the late-1950s after then Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, was photographed with this Dumas creation to hide her baby bump. Since then, the Kelly has grown into an entire extended family of bags, as well as accessories and watches.
