The crest and motto are those of Leighton, possibly for Sir Charlton Leighton, 3rd Bt. of Loton Park, near Shrewsbury, who succeeded his father in the baronetcy in 1756. He was born in 1715 and married twice; first to Anna Maria, daughter of Richard Mytton and second to Emma, daughter of Sir Robert Maude. Sir Charlton died on 5 May 1780'

This design of candlestick was first introduced by de Lamerie in 1739 although many of the decorative motifs had already been devised for a commission from Sir Robert Walpole for a pair of candelabra in 1731 (P.A.S. Phillips, Paul de Lamerie, plate LXIX).
