6-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, plain centre with date aperture, the fusee movement with five latched finely turned baluster pillars, verge escapement, engraved and numbered external locking plate striking on a bell, the backplate finely engraved with tulips and leaves and signed in a drapery reserve John Ebsworth, Londini fecit, the case with pierced brass basket top repoussé with leaves, monkeys and squirrels, later pineapple finials, moulded base and bun feet

John Ebsworth was apprenticed to Richard Ames in 1657 and was Free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1665.  He is recorded as working at the Cross Keys in Lothbury, London and later at Cheapside. He was Master of the Clockmakers' Company in 1697 and died in 1699.
