circa 1775


overall inlaid with vases and other small objects, the upper part with a central pigeon hole above a short drawer, flanked on each side by a door opening two reveal two shelves, the lower part with a long frieze drawer with a sliding red leather writing surface and storage compartments, on tapering legs with sabots joined by a stretcher

Interestingly, a table by the French ébéniste Charles Topino bears a frieze drawer with a very similar marquetry inlay as the frieze drawer on the present bonheur-du-jour (illustrated S. Barbier Sainte Marie, Charles Topino, Paris, 2005, p.72).
