A rare gothic revival silver-plated repeating 'Angelus' carriage clock by Lucien Falize, Paris

circa 1880


2¼-inch octagonal integral dial, the centre pierced with entwined dragons, the gong striking repeating movement with lever platform escapement, single tandem winding to the going and strike barrels, numbered 11650, the ornate recangular case with conjoined dragon handle, below the dial a relief depicting the Annunciation, inscribed Angelus Domini/nuntiavit Mariae, the sides inscribed with the months and with corresponding roundels depicting rustic activities, the rear with strapwork-hinged door to access the movement and inscribed Vigilitate/quia/netcitis diem/neque horam, the underside of the base with the Falize mark of AXF within a lozenge and engraved deposé,
