Hard Truckers

Custom speaker cabinet, used onstage by Bob Weir with the Grateful Dead, ca. late 1970s


8x8 speaker cabinet (24 x 45 x 13’’). Wood, birch plywood with hand-rubbed finish, black cloth grill cover, 8 Gauss speakers; touring wear.


While many, if not most, of the speakers used in the Wall of Sound were JBL, both Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir liked the heavy drivers and unique sound of the Gauss speakers (a brand used by Mesa Boogie, as well). This cab was probably driven by Weir’s immense Godzilla power amp
