The present drawing, intimate in scale but full of whimsy and delight, was executed in preparation for an engraving; the outlines are indented and the verso of the sheet blackened for transfer of the image to the copper plate.
The etching, to which the grouping on the right side of the present work corresponds, in reverse, is appropriately titled Children playing with dogs. An impression is today housed in the collection of The Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, MA.1
