Elisabeth Kley (b. 1956, New York, NY) lives and works in New York. She is known for her black and white ceramic sculptures, vessels, drawings and site-specific paintings adorned with pattern and decoration. She draws motifs from historic eras and styles of ornamentation including Roman, Egyptian, Byzantine, and Wiener Werkstätte. Kley has been the subject of many solo exhibitions including: Minutes of Sand, The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, PA (2021); Canada, New York (2016,) Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, University of the Arts in Philadelphia (2019), Pierre Marie Giraud in Brussels (2017), GAVLAK in Palm Beach (2015), 39 Great Jones in New York, (2014) Schema Projects in Brooklyn (2014), John Tevis Gallery in Paris, France (2012), Georgian National Gallery in Tbilisi (2011), Le Petit Versailles (2010) in New York and Momenta Art (2007) in Brooklyn. Her two-person and group exhibitions include shows at 56 Henry, Gordon Robichaux, Mitchell Algus Gallery, Orgy Park, Regina Rex, Canada, Andrew Edlin, Haunch of Venison, and Exit Art in New York; South Willard and VENUS in Los Angeles; GAVLAK in Los Angeles and Palm Beach; Season in Seattle; Soccer Club Club in Chicago and anonymous in Mexico City. Her work is included in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art. She was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 1998. A monograph on her work was published in 2019 by Canada and Pre-Echo Press; she is represented by Canada.
