Rolex celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Submariner in 2003 with the launch of a special variant of the reference 16610. The reference 16610LV (LV standing for Lunette Verte / Green Bezel) differs from the conventional model in its bezel color and was quickly nicknamed 'Kermit' by Rolex collectors.

Collectors have observed several iterations throughout the model's production life, as Rolex launched 6 dial designs and 2 case designs over time.

The present example dates from 2005 and features a case with non-drilled lugs, as confirmed by the '16610 T' engraving between the lugs (T meaning "Trou Borgne", that is "Blind Hole"). Furthermore, the Mark IV dial features an round O in the Rolex script in addition to a narrow "Oyster Perpetual Date". The narrow Swiss Made inscription at 6 o'clock is also sitting on top of three cropped graduations. The bezel is also a Mark IV with the distinctive square 5 referring to the right angles in the internal part of the 5 of the 50 guaduation. The combination of that case, dial and bezel configurations makes this present watch a Mark VI, which is correct for this case number starting with D4.

The Kermit is one of the most sought after and collectible modern Rolex models. Finding an all correct and full set example such as the present lot represents an opportunity not to be missed.
