A fine gold dual-time watch with jumping quarter seconds and independent centre seconds

Circa 1840, no. 6115


Movement: frosted gilded, two barrels for going and centre seconds trains, lever escapement, 23 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance, blued steel overcoil hairspring with bi-metallic compensation curb, parachute suspension

Dial: gold dial, two eccentric engine-turned dials for primary and secondary time zones, engine-turned subsidiary dial for constant and jumping 1/4 seconds, the surround with engraved lakeside scene and foliate scrolls to the base

• Case: gold, the back chased and engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage, the front and back bezels and pendant heavily chased and engraved with stylised flowers and foliage, milled band with stop slide, the cuvette decorated en-suite with the case back and with four apertures for winding each train and setting each time zone, cuvette signedJohn E. Hyde & Sons London & Paris and further engraved with movement details, numbered 6115, back cover and cuvette numbered [22]75, 117, 874
