Mercurius, god of Roman mythology, son of Jupiter, was considered the protector of travelers. Endowed with incredible speed he was the messenger of the gods, depicted with wings on his feet or winged sandals and a typical traveler's headdress sometimes winged as symbol of intelligence, which stood above matter in order to dominate it through knowledge.
Mercurius, dio della mitologia romana, figlio di Giove, era considerato il protettore dei viaggiatori. Dotato di incredibile velocità era il messaggero degli dei e veniva raffigurato con ali ai piedi o sandali alati ed un copricapo tipico dei viaggiatori a volte alato anch'esso come simbolo dell'intelligenza, che si poneva al di sopra della materia per poterla dominare attraverso la conoscenza.
